A Local Service Organization Is Marking A Major Milestone

March 11, 2026

(Lakefield, Mn.)– The Lakefield Lion’s Club is celebrating 50 years as they first chartered in September of 1976. Duane Hage, who has been a member since the very beginning, explains how the club got its start…

“The Lions at that time in ’76 were expanding, trying to charter more clubs. Jackson came over with a team of individuals and started talking to some people in town to see if there was any interest and they came and talked to my dad who was a fairly prominent figure in the community, and several others that were businessmen on main street and that, and there was interest in it.”

Hage explains why most members wanted to be involved…

“For most of us at the time when we joined Lions it was because it was a local chapter that did service or functions for the community but was also regional and international. It is to this day still the largest international service organization in the world.”

Hage says the Lions have done a lot of projects within the Lakefield community including installing handicap ramps for those that request them.

Lions Club International is the largest membership-based service club organization in the world. They have 1.4 million members serving locally and globally to help take on some big challenges. If you would like to become a member of your local Lions Club you can contact any member.

Lakefield Lions meet the second Monday of every month at the Multi Purpose Center in Lakefield at 6:00.
