A Lakes Area Realtor Has Been Named Citizen Of The Years By Spirit Lake Noon Kiwanis

January 09, 2026

(Spirit Lake)– A lakes area realtor has been named Citizen of the Years by the Spirit Lake Noon Kiwanis. Kirk Stauss of Stauss realty tells KUOO news he was completely surprised upon learning he had been selected for the honor this year…

“I was completely caught off guard. If you know me I’m, it’s hard to say I was speechless but I really was.”

Stauss, pretty much a lifelong resident of the Iowa Great Lakes, has been active in a number of causes in the area over the years…

“Some of the things that I’ve enjoyed the most is I was on the Okoboji City Council for about 17 years and I was I guess the first president and helped start the Indian Athletic Booster Club for Spirit Lake. Also I was very much involved in the Feed The Children program. We packaged over 250,000 meals to send to people that were in need of food. Also have been very involved in some local boards like the Pearson Lakes Art Center, the Yacht Club, and the Okoboji Protective Association. It’s like a lot of us around here, you try to be involved and give back as much to the community as you possibly can.”

Stauss says there’s much about giving back to the community that he finds personally fulfilling…

“First of all, all the great people you get to work with, getting to know the people. And, you know, the community is only as good as the people that live in it and I’m constantly amazed at how wonderful the people are. A great example is the Kiwanians. They are a fantastic organization in the community. We just have a lot of great people that live in Okoboji and the Iowa Great Lakes.”

Stauss thanks the Kiwanis for the honor.
