(Milford)– A grass fire Sunday southwest of Milford burned about 80 acres of switch grass.
Milford Fire Chief Jim Carpenter says firefighters were called to 2325 190th Avenue near Horseshoe Bend County Park around 1:30 p.m.
Upon arriving firefighters found several acres of CRP ground on fire, with the blaze spreading near a house on the north side. The fire was also quickly expanding to the south and west into wooded areas along the Little Sioux River.
Carpenter says wet grounds caused by springs made it difficult for firefighters to access some of the area.
12 firefighters battled the blaze using various aparatus.
Carpenter says his department was assisted by Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Chief Chris Yungbluth and another member who delivered some needed equipment to the scene.
Firefighters were on the scene until shortly after 3:00 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
Carpenter reminds everyone that even though the ground may be wet now, tall grass can be quite dry due to the wind. He encourages everyone to keep a close eye on any fires until the new green growth is well-established later this spring.
There was no immediate word as to how Sunday’s fire got started.
