(Okoboji)-The Joy of LIfe Foundation will hold their annual fundraiser Thursday night. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Walz Family will hold the 7th annual Fundraiser for the Joy of Life Foundation on Thursday evening.
Organizer Jantina Carney says, the Foundation works to raise awareness about melanoma. “The Joy of Life Foundation was created in honor of Joy Walz. Their goal is to help fight melanoma. So, one of the big things that they do is, they purchase sunscreen dispensers, and those are placed throughout the area, and I think we’ve got 5 counties that they’re currently in. They’re at public beaches, in different parks, and then we have people that go out and make sure they remain full, and just refill them and that kind of thing throughout the summer. You know, Joy’s passing, it just became a passion for the Walz Family to really try to keep this in the forefront of people’s minds that melanoma is real and, as much as we love the sun and we love summer, it’s very, very important to use that sunscreen.”
She adds that the fundraiser will be held at The Okoboji Store this year. “It changed up this year, normally it’s in October. So, we decided to have it at The Okoboji Store with Brad & Kate playing. We’ll have silent auction items, we’ll have a 50/50 raffle, we’ll have a wine wall, just a lot of fun stuff going on. So, we just invite people to come out, enjoy the food, stay for the entertainment and check out the silent auction items.”
The fundraiser will run from 7-10 pm Thursday night.
