(Spirit Lake)-The Joy of Life Fundraiser will be held this Saturday in Spirit Lake. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The 6th Annual Joy of Life Foundation Fundraiser will be held on Saturday evening at the Dickinson County Expo Center.
President John Walz says, the Foundation is named in honor of his late wife. “Her name was Joy. She was always about family, friends and fun and she was always about giving back. So, my kids wanted to something in memory of their Mom, and so we started the Joy of Life Foundation. The whole purpose is to raise money to help educate about melanoma in our area. We do it through education and we do it through providing sunscreen dispensers and sunscreen in public areas. We try to put them up in ball ,fields, beaches. Actually, anybody that requests one we try to get it to them if they’ve got a need for one.”
He adds that the event will include live music, food and a silent auction. “The doors open at 6:30 and we have The Expressions coming in, they’re a really good group. We also have a bunch of silent auction items, also a food truck coming from Ocheyedan called The Burn Unit. It’s a whole family event, we have games for kids and everyone.”
The event will start at 7 o’clock Saturday night, with a free will offering accepted at the door.
