6th Annual Battle Of The Chili Pots Is This Saturday

January 16, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– An annual fundraising event for lakes area fire departments will be going on this weekend. Jason Simpson of the Milford Fire Department says the 6th annual “Battle of The Chili Pots” will take place this Saturday, January 20th, from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at the Spirit Lake Fire Station. He says those attending will be able to judge which department has the best chili…

“When you come through at the front table we’ll have little judging beads right there. It’s a freewill donation. It’s on Saturday, January 20th. It runs from 5:00 to 7:00. You’ll be handed a cup and a spoon and then you go through and you try each department’s chili. And then the chili that you like the best you put your judging bead in their cup.”

Simpson adds the proceeds will be divided up evenly among the participating fire departments…

“The proceeds from this chili cook-off will be split equally between each department that participates in the chili cook-off and then those departments use that for any funding that they need for maybe gear, or anything like that, tools, stuff like that. So it goes back to a good cause.”

Simpson says it’s also a good opportunity for the public to visit with firefighters, see some equipment, and inquire about joining a department if you’d like to volunteer.

The department deemed to have the best chili will receive bragging rights for the next year.
