4th Annual Camp Autumn Fishing Tournament & Fundraiser is February 11

February 06, 2023 Becky Thoreson

(Sutherland)-It’s the Annual Camp Autumn Fishing Tournament this weekend. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:

Seasons Center and Camp Autumn are hosting their 4th Annual Ice Fishing Tournament & Fundraiser on Saturday.
Camp Director Adam Lybarger says, free will donations at the event help raise funds for scholarships. “It is held here on our private lake at Camp Autumn, the only day of the year that we invite the public to come out and fish with us on our lake. It’s a way for people to get to know Camp Autumn a little bit if they’re not familiar with it, and it’s also a way that we raise money for our scholarship program to help bring kids to camp in the summertime.”
He adds that the tournament includes prizes and lunch. “Registration starts at 9 am, then fishing goes from 10-1, then at 1 o’clock we invite everybody to our camp warehouse. Our volunteers will get to work tabulating the results to see who wins the tournament, and while they’re doing that we invite everybody to have lunch with us. One of the really great things about this tournament, the first 60 kids who register that day get a free ice fishing rod and reel to take home with them, courtesy of the Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club. The Fishing Club is super helpful putting on this event, we could not do it without them. They provide all the transportation to and from the parking lot out to the area that we’ll be finishing in at the lake. They’re the judges that will measure all the fish that are caught. They also bring extra shacks and heaters and gear so, if there’s a family out there or somebody who’s never been ice fishing before and wants to try it out, this is a perfect opportunity.”
Pre-registration is available online.
