30 Head Of Cows Wander Onto Road; Six Wind Up Being Struck And Killed

November 22, 2014

(Terril)– There was a lot of beef on the road Friday evening south of Terril.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says about 30 black angus calves got out of a pasture and onto County Road N-14 about six miles south of Terril, causing two accidents that wound up killing six of the creatures.

The first occurred around 11:00 p.m. Deputies say Jay Allen of Iowa City was driving a 2003 Chevrolet pickup southbound when he struck and killed three of the calves.

About 10 minutes later a 1999 Chrysler mini van driven by Jenny Hanson of Estherville came upon the scene, striking and killing three more of the calves.

No injuries were reported to either driver.

The pickup driven by Allen was totaled; two thousand dollars in damage was estimated to the minivan driven by Hanson.
