(Spencer)– Some additional opportunities to learn about agriculture will be available at this year’s Clay County Fair powered by SMU. Fair Manager Jeremy Parsons says one of those will be a farmer’s market that’s been dubbed “Fair To Fork”…
“We are really pleased with the turnout so far. We’re going to have multiple vendors there every day in that barn, which will switch out daily. A lot of them are favorites from the farmer’s market up at the lakes and here in Spencer. We’re really excited about that. Also cooperating with the Iowa Food and Family Project with some educational pieces in there, so just another way to learn more about where your food comes from.”
Another special event is targeted for FFA students at area high schools. Parsons says FFA Day at the fair will be held Tuesday, September 13th…
“Eight local colleges that have ag programs will be set up in Central Park to meet with these FFA students. We’re now up to seven different schools that will be bringing their FFA chapters here on Tuesday. And then here in the ballroom we have Jason Wetzler with us who is a former national FFA officer. He’ll be doing a keynote address in the morning and a leadership workshop in the afternoon, so if you’re an FFA student, your advisor can bring you here for a full day of education at the fair.”
Parsons says a “Dairy Experience” will also be held each day of the fair in cattle barn 3. He says it will include milking, butter and ice cream churning demonstrations, among other things.
