2011 Another Banner Year For Tourism In The Iowa Great Lakes

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)—2011 was another banner year for tourism in the Iowa Great Lakes. That was the message Stacy Rosemoore of Okoboji Tourism had today (Tues.) as she presented her annual report to the Dickinson county board of supervisors. She says the numbers were up across the board from 2010…(click here for comment.) “In 2010 expenditures were up $213 million so we are up. In 2011 we were at a little more than $244 million. As far as payroll goes, for 2011 we were at $29.8 million, that’s up from $27.83 million. For jobs, in 2010 we were at 1,770 jobs up to 1,830; statewide tax receipts for 2011 brought in $12.2 million, that was up from the previous year; and as far as local tax receipts go, which we love, we were up from 2010 when we were at $3.91 million and for 2011 we were up to $4.21 million.”

2011 is the most recent year statistics are available. Rosemoore says the numbers for 2012 won’t be out until this coming fall. She expects those to be even higher given how hot the weather was last summer.
