2-Vehicle Crash On Hwy 18 Near Emmetsburg Injures Two

November 22, 2014

(Emmetsburg)– Two people were injured in a two-vehicle collision Monday morning on Highway 18 a mile and-a-half west of Emmetsburg.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office says James Nissen of Emmetsburg was driving a 1998 Chevrolet truck and Dean Devore of West Bend was driving a 2007 Buick when the two collided. Deputies say Nissen had slowed to make a left-turn and was awaiting oncoming traffic to pass when he was struck in the rear by the Devore vehicle.

The impact sent the Nissen truck onto the north shoulder, while the car driven by Devore came to rest on the westbound lane of the highway, partially blocking the road.

Nissen and a passenger in his vehicle, Jeff Hersom of Emmetsburg, were taken to the Palo Alto County Hospital by private vehicle. There was no word on the extent of their injuries.

The truck, owned by K & W Electric, sustained an estimated four thousand dollars in damage; damage to the car driven by Devore was estimated at 15-thousand dollars.

Devore was cited for failure to stop in an assureed, clear distance.

The collision took place shortly before 10:30 a.m.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Emmetsburg Police Department.
