12-Year-Old Leads Storm Lake Police On Pursuit

August 15, 2025

(Storm Lake)– Storm Lake Police say a 12-year-old boy led officers on a high-speed chase through residential streets Wednesday afternoon.

Around 2:40 p.m., officers responded to reports of a reckless driver speeding and passing vehicles near the 200 block of Cayuga Street. Police attempted a traffic stop near East Lakeshore Drive and Chautauqua Park Drive, but the driver accelerated through a construction zone and into a residential yard.

The pursuit continued for roughly 10 blocks, reaching speeds over 50 miles per hour, before the vehicle came to a stop in the 200 block of Russell Street. The juvenile male, a Storm Lake resident, was taken into custody without incident.

He was referred to juvenile court on multiple charges, including eluding—a Class D felony—along with several misdemeanors such as reckless driving, speeding, and operating without a valid license. He was released to a parent.
