Salary/Pay Rate: $63,755 – $71,250 (DOQ)

Summary Description:
Reports to and performs duties as assigned by the Senior Water Operator. Operates construction equipment and hand tools and performs manual labor duties within the water distribution system. Performs water treatment plant duties under the direction of the Chief of Operation. Analyzing data, water samples and daily readings of the water plant. Assumes duties as a lead person during summer months working with part-time employees. On call for emergencies such as water main breaks and service calls. Able to respond to emergencies and occasionally work extended hours.

Location & Brief System Description:
Osceola County Rural Water is a multi-county regional water system in Northwest Iowa serving all of Osceola & O’Brien counties, and large portions of Lyon & Dickinson County to include customers in Minnesota. With over 1,500 miles of distribution system pipeline and just under 4,000 service connections, Osceola Rural Water produces and distributes an average of 5 – 6 million gallons of potable drinking water per day to its customers via two water treatment plants and four water towers.

Typical Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Installation, maintenance, and repair on valves, hydrants, fittings and service lines.
• Drives and operates trucks, tractors, backhoes, loaders and other motorized equipment.
• Tows and operates vac truck and trailering equipment.
• Participate in the on-call rotation (once qualified) every four to five weeks.

Periodic Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Performs taps on water mains and installs service lines for new customers.
• Performs leak surveys and assists customers with pressure problems.
• Reads, interprets, and installs various types of water meters and measuring devices.
• Identifies, locates, and marks water mains, service lines, stop boxes.
• Operates various vehicles and other equipment in a safe manner.
• Calculates and estimates materials needed for projects.
• Attend continuing education classes and safety meetings.

Typical Qualifications:
• Pre-employment drug & alcohol screening, motor vehicle report, and background check.
• Must possess a valid Iowa driver’s license with a good driving record
• Must Possess Iowa Grade I Water Distribution Certification within twelve months of hire.
• Obtain an Iowa Grade II Water Distribution Certification within six months of hire.

Education/Experience:
• Preference will be given to those with the following qualifications:
• Experience in water distribution, utility construction, or a closely related field.
• Residential and commercial plumbing knowledge.
• Backhoe and construction equipment experience.

Working Conditions:
• Outdoor work year-round at locations such as construction sites and roadways.
• Ability to lift, carry, push and pull 70 pounds.
• Maintains a safe working environment.
• Utilizes appropriate PPE when necessary at all times.
