Stella Winter

A Celebration of Life Graveside Service for Stella Winter, age 94, of Milford, Iowa, will be held at 11 am, Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Little Sioux Lutheran Cemetery (A43 South and West of Milford).

Stella Adeline Winter, age 94, passed away on May 3, 2026, at Accura Healthcare in Milford.

Stella was born on July 25, 1931, to Edith and James Courtney at Woody Island, Canada. She was united in marriage to Norman Winter on October 22, 1953, in St. John’s, Newfoundland. In 1954, the couple made their home in Milford.

Stella spent many summers alongside Norm bailing hay. She was also a dedicated Avon representative for more than forty years, forming lasting friendships along the way. Stella had a deep love for baking and gardening, and she and Norm took great pride in canning vegetables each year. Together, they grew and sold sweet corn—widely known as some of the best around—and Stella cherished her time on the corner stand selling corn and visiting with friends and neighbors. She was an excellent seamstress who lovingly made her children’s clothing during their younger years and even continued sewing until recent days. She enjoyed relaxing outdoors on warm, sunny days and spending time with those she loved.

Stella is survived by her three daughters, Sonya (Jeff) Johnson, Sharon Koch, and LaVonne McGinnis; grandchildren, Sarah, Lindsay, Dillon, Tyler, and John; great-grandchildren, Christian, Cheyenne, Nick, Isaiah, Killian, Harrison, Quinn, and Malakai; and two great-great-grandchildren, Astelle and Jaxon; brother, Eric, sister, Grace and many other family members of Newfoundland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, and her parents.

Turner Jenness Funeral Home of Milford in charge of arrangements.
