Looking for a fun and educational evening with the family? On Friday, March 27,
from 5:00-6:00 PM, the Dickinson County Nature Center will host Family Nature Night: Pesky Pests, an
engaging program for families to learn about mosquitoes and other pesky critters through interactive
games and activities.
The evening will begin with a game called “Good Bug, Bad Bug,” where participants will identify
insects that are beneficial to the environment and those that may spread disease. Next, children will
take part in a tag-style activity called “Pest Problems,” that demonstrates how quickly insects can spread
disease.
To wrap up the program, Miss Danika will introduce families to some of nature’s natural pest
controllers found right here in Iowa, highlighting how certain animals help keep insect populations in
balance.
“Pesky pests may be annoying, but they play an important role in our environment, and we’re
excited to see families learn more about them while having a great time together,” said Amy Heibult,
community relations coordinator of the Dickinson County Conservation Board.
Family Nature Night is designed for families with elementary-aged children who love nature and
want to explore something new through fun, hands-on activities. Registration is required to attend and
the deadline to sign up by 5 PM on March 25th.
