***NOTE: This story has been corrected from a previous version to reflect the city HAS finalized the land purchase for the project
(Lake Park)– The Lake Park City Council Monday evening approved an engineering agreement for the design of a new EMS/fire station.
Mayor Matt Carstensen says representatives from the city, EMS Association, and the fire department, will now meet with the engineer to begin the process of coming up with a proposal to go before the voters in the form of a bond referendum this coming November…
“The one thing we really want to be conscientiousness of is what it will end up costing the taxpayer in the end. I’ve said it before, it’s absolutely mind boggling what construction costs are now days. Just about the time you think you have a handle on things and then you put a price tag on it and you’re sometimes shocked at the figure that comes up. We’re hoping that we can have something hammered out by the next council meeting so we can decide the appropriate spending level that we might want to offer the voters come November so that we can either push the project forward or maybe step back and re-tool it. Here again, that will be a decision made by the voters. The council can’t make a decision like that, the price tag is too large for us to say yes to something like that, so that will be a vote put to the people of Lake Park.”
The city council in January approved the purchase of land for the project.
