Donald D. Dorn, 94, of the Iowa Great Lakes passed away on Friday, January 9, 2026, at
Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake.
Services for Donald will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of
the Robinson Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Online condolences may be directed to
Don was born on September 6, 1931, to Earl and Ruby (Petersen) Dorn in Council
Bluffs, IA. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1950, in Council Bluffs,
IA, and furthered his education at the Omaha Radio Technical Institute in Omaha, NE.
He served his country as a Non-Commissioned Officer in the US Army during the Korean
Conflict. Don was married to the love of his life, Donna Jean Davie, on June 11, 1955, in
Council Bluffs, IA. He retired from AT&T as a Regional District Manager after 36 years of
dedicated service and relocated to Lake Okoboji to spend his retired life in the Great
Lakes Area.
For the last thirty-six years, Don was a “jack of all trades” and a Captain for
Fillenwarth’s Beach Resort boat fleet. Don enjoyed dancing of all types, with ballroom and
Square dancing among his favorites. Additionally, he volunteered his time to coach his boys
in baseball, football and wrestling. He was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye’s Fan, and enjoyed
spending time with his family in Georgia, Minnesota, Alaska, Tennessee and South Dakota.
He and Donna always looked forward to their annual winter retreat to Maui and just
returned from Maui in September.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of seventy years, Donna Dorn of Milford, IA;
5 sons, Doug (Andrea) Dorn of Johns Creek, GA; Dave (Stephanie) Dorn of Lake Elmo, MN;
Darrin (Angie)Dorn of Anchorage, AK; Darrick (Ilona) Dorn of Puryear, TN; and Dirk (Kristi)
Dorn of Sioux Falls, SD; 14 grandchildren, Dakota (Maggie), Ashlyn, Liam (Sydnee), Jason,
Erica, Lexi, Dalton, Charlie (Brooklyn), Lance, Dylan, Sydney, Hayley, Allison and Rilee;
2 great grandchildren, Murphy and Conner; a brother Larry (Phyllis) Dorn of Ankeny, IA;
and many nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, 3, brothers and 4 sisters.
