(Jackson, Mn.)– The deadline to apply for funds through a special program offered through Jackson, Minnesota-based Federated Rural Electric is approaching. Andrea Christoffer of Federated says various organizations and groups are eligible to apply for the program for community betterment projects…
“We have our spring round up deadline approaching. The deadline is February 13th. We’ll hand the money out come April. The types of organizations that can apply for funding that are eligible would be something involving community service, community leadership, disaster relief, youth education, environmental programs and emergency energy assistance. So it’s really quite broad. But the biggest thing that’s not available is money for advertising. So unfortunately we can’t do that and you can’t do fundraising or big donations for capital expenses but everything else is eligible.”
Christoffer says the cost per year for rounding up your bill through Federated’s Operation Round-Up program is very minimal…
“It’s tax deductible and usually it’s, the most it could be is $12 a year and not even that. More like the average is $6 per year. It’s a pretty painless way to help your local organizations and it’s kind of nice seeing it go to the fire departments, the ambulances, the schools, some of the 501c3 organizations in our Jackson-Martin county, just right around there.”
Since 1995 Federated’s trust board that oversees the Operation Round-Up program has distribute more than $1 million to local organizations. The application can be downloaded from the Federated REA website at federatedrea.coop or you can call 800-321-3250. Federated REA is a Touchstone Energy Cooperative serving 5,300 members in Jackson and Martin counties, Minnesota.
