Jackson Implementing New Process For Organizers Of Special Events

August 08, 2025

(Jackson, Mn.)– The city of Jackson is implementing an application process for those looking to hold special events in the community. City Administrator Jim Langborg says it’s modeled after similar ones in other cities…

"Basically just goes over what it is you're doing. Who's the contact? Um, ensuring that they have, like, insurance. Um, depending on what the event is, if they're going to, it's going to be involving streets or street closures. Talking in detail, possibly even drawing a map to show what those things will be and the times that those closures will be in place, etc. it just depends on the event. But again, the intent is to give the council information ahead of time so that they can read it and come prepared for the meeting. And we always welcome the applicant to show up to discuss it with the council in the event that they have questions and it just makes the process easier and clearer. And also, I think sets expectations for the applicants so that they know what the rules of the city are as well."

Langborg says there was not a specific incident or event that led up to the change…

“This was just something that I had seen in other communities that I’d worked in, and, um, I recommended it and just wanted to ensure that, again, our council has good information because as the policy makers and as elected officials, the people depend on them to make good, well informed decisions. So giving them information is important.”

Langborg says it’s also intended to help organizers put on a good event.
