(Okoboji)–The musical theatre intensive will run from July 14-19th at the Okoboji Summer Theatre and Madison Dodd, the director of the Boji Bantam Children’s Theatre and of the musical theatre intensive, says there will be a lot going on during the week…
“It’s most geared towards middle and high school students and we take folks of all ability levels in that age group so it is singing, dancing, acting all day long with not only myself as an instructor but its a good opportunity for the community to have collaboration between our locals with our Stephens College students. They’ll come in and do some work with them as well and usually we’re able to bring in some of our professionals that are there for the main stage shows.”
Dodd says she was very pleased with the results of the first intensive which was held last summer…
“Each student had the opportunity to participate in one solo and one duet piece. And then we had I believe 3 or 4 full group musical theatre pieces that we did and last season my collaborator was a recent Stephens grad, Sophie Davis, and Sophie did Shakespere monologues with the students and OST veteran Rob Goyun came in and workshopped those so I’m looking forward to doing some more monologue work and scene work with the students as well so all pieces of performance will be present and it’s a really fun time. It’s hard work but they had so much fun last season and they made some new friends too which is just wonderful for kids that age.”
This five day intensive includes daily classes focused on acting, voice and movement. Classes will meet July 14-18th from 9:00 AM to 4:00 pm with a showcase at 10 am on Saturday July 19th. The bootcamp is designed for children ages 12 and older. Tuition is $375 and for more information or to register you can go to okobojisummertheatre.org
