(Spencer)– The Spencer City Council Monday evening approved the first reading of an ordinance revising the process to be followed by those requesting the use of city right-of-way for special events. City Manager Dan Gifford says it changes the process used in obtaining permits for such a purpose…
“Currently they, whoever’s interested in doing that contacts the City Clerk. The City Clerk puts it on a council agenda and the council approves or denies that application. The new process would be a standard form filled out that has some insurance requirements attached to it and there’s a time limit that in the original ordinance was 30 days. It has to go to the city council, so we’ve changed that to 21 days, so that way it will always be in time for a city council meeting where we won’t have to call a special meeting just to approve this. That’s why 21 days. Just happens if there’s a five week month then we have three weeks between council meetings, which is where the 21 days comes from.”
The matter needs to come back to the council for two more considerations prior to it being put up for final adoption.
