E’Ville Council Authorizes Police To Grant Extensions On Junk Vehicles; Chief Says He Probably Won’t Exercise It

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– Estherville residents with junk vehicles in their yards could be granted a little more time in getting them removed.

The city council Monday gave Police Chief Eric Milburn the authority to grant extensions. But Milburn says he probably won’t use the authority. He says residents already have plenty of time to address the matter, as they automatically are given five to seven weeks to take care of the issue once they’ve been notified through a certified letter. A second follow-up letter is then sent, so Milburn says they have all kinds of advance warning.

In other business, the council approved a 138-thousand dollar engineering agreement for the water treatment plant expansion and underground reservoir project. They opted not to go along with a proposal to hire a resident project supervisor which would have cost an additional 45-thousand dollars. The city will provide that service on its own.
