(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake city council Tuesday set October 13th as the date for public hearings on several zoning-related issues.
One hearing will be on a proposed amendment to the city’s zoning ordinance making drinking establishments special exception uses in General Commercial Districts that are less than 200 feet away from a residential area. Under the change, anyone wanting to open a bar in such an area would have to seek approval from the city’s Board of Adjustment.
Public hearings will also be held October 13th on rezoning requests for the Ferguson Business Park/Matuska Subdivision and lot two of Bedell’s Second Addition.
The council also Tuesday approved design guidelines for buildings in the downtown area along with the Olde Town Betterment Incentive program. The new guidelines are based on input from a committee of downtown business owners.
The incentive program makes available a 20-thousand dollar grant from the city for facade improvements. Only one grant will be allowed per property. The grant will be paid upon completion of a project and issuance of a certificate of completion. A project must have a minimum cost of 2,500-dollars to be eligible. Applications are available at the Spirit Lake MainSail Chamber of Commerce office and city hall.
On another note, it was reported a meeting will be held September 29th between property owners and developers of the Iowa Great Lakes Lifestyle Center, or golf resort project.
