(Des Moines)– The Graettinger-Terril High School is receiving some special recognition from the state. It’s one of five schools from across the state being honored by the State Board of Education for making significant progress in closing gaps in student achievement.
The “Breaking Barriers to Teaching and Learning Award” commends districts for their efforts in the use of evidence-based practices, a staff-wide commitment, high expectations and substantial collaboration among teachers.
The State Board of Education exmaines school data to find the highest proficiency rates in reading and math for a range of subgroups. They then take the highest-scored school from each category and interview the principal to ensure best practices are in place.
The Breaking Barriers to Teaching and Learning Award was presented to representatives of the Graettinger-Terril Schools at the Iowa Association of School Boards Convention earlier this week in Des Moines
