Audit Report Of SL Schools Finds Expenditures Down, Revenue Up

(Spirit Lake)—An audit report on the Spirit Lake school district’s finances shows an increase in revenue and a decrease in expenditures over the past fiscal year.

The report shows revenues totaled slightly more than $16 million for the year ended June 30th, 2012…a 1.3 percent increase from the prior year. Revenues included $9.87 million in local taxes, charges for service of nearly $1.6 million, operating grants, capital grants, contributions and restricted interest of $1.74 million, unrestricted interest of a little more than $72,000 and other general revenues of nearly $2.8 million.

Expenses totaled slightly more than $14 million…a 0.8 percent decrease from the prior year. Expenses totaled nearly $8.2 million for instruction; nearly $3.9 million for support services; $1.4 million for other expenditures and a little more than $524,000 for non-instructional programs.
