Western Christian Basketball Escapes Spirit Lake With Close Wins

Girls Game

 

The Spirit Lake girls started off the game on an 8-0 run before Western Christian answered with a 6-0 run.  The teams would trade buckets and then Spirit Lake's Bailee Newman hit a 3 at the buzzer and Spirit Lake led 13-10 after the 1st quarter.  Western led 35-25 at half and 44-30 after 3.  In the 4th quarter, Spirit Lake started off the quarter on a 12-0 run and got to within 44-42 with 2 minutes to go.  The wolfpack did not score until 1:43 left to go in the 4th quarter.  Spirit Lake got it to within 3 points at 52-49 with 3 seconds to go and a long pass by Spirit Lake into the front court for a try at a 3 was taken away by HWC and Hull Western Christian held on by the score of 52-49. 

 

Spirit Lake was led by Emma Dau with 23 points and Bailee Newman with 17.  Western Christian had 17 points from Jamie Gesink.  The Indians fall to 10-5 and host Emmetsburg Thursday on KUOO.  The Wolfpack improve to 14-2 and will host Emmetsburg on Friday.

 

 

Boys Game

 

A back and forth game in the boys game had Western Christian coming out on top 61-57.  The wolfpack led 15-11 after the 1st quarter and 31-26 at half.  Spirit Lake outscored them 13-11 in the 3rd to trail 42-39 but HWC would hit 5-6 free throws in the end to seal the 61-57 victory.

 

Spirit Lake was led by Ryan Kriener with 19 points, Billy Brown with 16 and Alex Prignitz with 15.  The indians fall to 12-2 and 7-2 in the lakes conference.  Western Christian improves to 13-2 and 8-2 in the conference.  They were led last night by Josh Van Lingen with 17 points.
