Spirit Lake's Ryan Kriener To Join Big 10 Basketball

Tue 8-4-2015 []

Ryan Kriener, a Spirit Lake senior to be, announced via twitter last Thursday that he will attend the University of Iowa.  He will join the 2016/2017 recruiting class.

On twitter Thursday, he said "I am extremely blessed to say, I committed to be an Iowa Hawkeye today!"

Iowa extended the offer after Kriener wrapped up a standout summer with his AAU team, Martin Brothers Legacy, with a win at the Division 1 AAU National Championships in Louisville, Kentucky in July.

He averaged just under 20 points per game as a Junior for Spirit Lake on 71.3 percent shooting.

He counted around 20 offers from major universities including Iowa, Missouri, Wichita State, Minnesota and Northern Iowa.

Kriener is the 4th Iowa prep to verbally commit to the Hawkeyes for the next 3 seasons.  He joins Dubuque Wahlert forward Cordell Pemsl (2016), Iowa City West guard Connor McCaffery (2017), and Muscatine wing Joe Wieskamp (2018).
