Spirit Lake's Postseason Run Comes To An End
For the third year in a row, Sergeant Bluff-Luton has knocked Spirit Lake out of the postseason. Monday night in Sioux City, the Warriors beat the Indians 50-38. In the first quarter, Spirit Lake started off the game on a 10-0 run before it was answered by SB-L and a 7-0 run of their own. Spirit Lake led 14-10 after the first quarter. It was a back and forth second quarter with Spirit Lake leading 26-24 at the break. In the third quarter, the warriors claimed their first lead of the game with 2 minutes 52 seconds left to go in the quarter. Still it was tied at 35 heading to the final quarter. In that final quarter, SB-L outscored Spirit Lake 15-3 to win by 12 points.
Spirit Lake was led by Owen Coburn with 16 points and they finish the season with a record of 11-13. They will say goodbye to five seniors in Ben Newman, Owen Coburn, Kip Hurd, Greg Will and Spencer Newman. Sergeant Bluff-Luton was led by Conner Groves with 22 points and they advance to state with a record of 20-3. They are making their third consecutive state trip appearance.
