Spirit Lake Softball Stays Unbeaten In Conference Play

Thu 6-9-2016

A young LeMars squad could not hang with Spirit Lake as the Indians softball team downed the Bulldogs 16-2 in three innings.  Spirit Lake scored two in the top of the first off a single by Caitlyn Roberts and a two run homer by Mackenzie Thate.  The Indians scored six more in the second.  Three players reached on a bunt single, Bailee Newman had an RBI double, and Josie Fagen hit a three run homer during the inning.  LeMars got two runs back in the bottom of the inning, but eight more runs by the Indians in the third was more than enough to end the game.  Mackenzie Thate was 2-for-3 with three RBI, and three runs scored.  Whitlee Reitz was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI.  Kailee Jenness was 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored.  Kelsey Delperdang was 2-for-2 with a walk, RBI, and two runs scored.  Bailee Newman was the winning pitcher.  She gave up two runs on two hits, striking out three, and walking one.  The Indians are 14-2 (5-0 Lakes), and they play at Western Christian on Friday.  Kady Leusink led the Bulldogs with a two RBI double.  LeMars is now 5-10 (2-3 Lakes).
