Spirit Lake Softball Advances Past GLRCL

On a night when everything went Spirit Lake's way, the Indians defeated George-Little Rock/Central Lyon 11-1 in five innings thanks in large part to five home runs. Spirit Lake quickly jumped on top 2-0 in the first inning, then three homers in the third added 4 runs. In the fourth, the Indians sent two more balls over the fence to bring in 5 additional runs. When the dust settled after four and a half innings, Spirit Lake was victorious 11-1 over the Mustangs.
Spirit Lake's 11 runs came on 10 hits, 2 Mustang errors, and they left just 1 runner on base. Bailee Newman pitched all five innings for the Indians, giving up just 2 hits and 1 run while striking out 4 batters. She went 2-for-2 offensively with a home run and 3 runs scored. Mackenzie Thate was lights out, going 3-for-3 with 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored, including 2 home runs. Josie Fagen and Whitlee Reitz each added 1 home run while Caitlyn Roberts and Paige Petersen scored a run apiece for the Indians.
The Mustangs scored 1 run on 2 hits and 1 Spirit Lake error while leaving 2 runners stranded on base. Laura Heibult pitched all four innings in the loss, giving up 10 hits, 11 runs (9 earned) while walking 1 and striking out 1. Ashley Boer scored their lone run after a triple in the fourth inning.
Spirit Lake is now 30-6 and advances to Friday night's 3A Region 1 Semifinal in Spirit Lake against Cherokee. KUOO will carry the game with first pitch at 7PM.
George-Little Rock/Central Lyon finishes the season with a 12-17 record.
