Spirit Lake Softball Advances In The Postseason
Spirit Lake downed Okoboji 12-0 in 4 innings in Class 3A Region 2 Softball on Wednesday night. The Indians got a run in the bottom of the first, three more in the third, and ended the game with eight runs in the fourth. Stella Donkersloot had a solo home run, walk and sacrifice bunt in the game for the Indians. Brenna Benge was 1-for-2 with a three run home run, a walk, two runs scored. Karli Olson had a triple, two walks, and three runs scored. Irish Knutson was the winning pitcher for Spirit Lake. She gave up no runs on one hit, striking out four and walking one. The Indians are now 21-6. They'll host Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley on Friday night at 7pm. Hear the game on KUOO. BHRV won the early game over George-Little Rock/Central Lyon 13-1 in three innings.
For Okoboji, Keitra Cabinboy tallied the lone hit. Shania Christopherson was the losing pitcher. She gave up seven runs on four hits, striking out six while walking six. Maggie Bergeson pitched in relief for Okoboji. She gave up five runs on three hits and walked two. The Pioneers season ends at 9-18. They say goodbye to eight seniors: Cabinboy, Mia Meyer, Madeline Stover, Makenzie Vos, Grace Eckard, Shania Christopherson, Sidney Ries, and Kylie Jensen.
