Spirit Lake Football Stays Undefeated With Win Over Forest City
Spirit Lake remained undefeated with a 29-14 win over visiting Forest City in non-district football on Friday night. The Indians were the first team to strike with a six yard touchdown run by Dawson Ahrenstorff with 1:15 to go in the first quarter. The two point conversion was good to make it 8-0. The Indians would threaten to score with 4:01 to go in the second quarter but penalties would stall a drive inside the Forest City 10 yard line and a field goal attempt would go wide right. Forest City punted on every possession in the first half with the exception of a Frankie Ramos interception to end the first half. Forest City tied the game in the third quarter off a three yard touchdown run by Jacob Jurgensen and a two point conversion catch by Richard Gildemeister with 6:49 to go in the quarter. Spirit Lake answered immediately though thanks to a 92 yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Matthew Moody. The extra point was good by Rian Byers. Later in the quarter, Moody scored off a 28 yard touchdown catch and the extra point extended the lead to 22-8. At the end of the third quarter, Ramos caught a 10 yard touchdown pass and the extra point made it 29-8 to enter the final quarter. Early in the fourth quarter, Ben Midtgaard ran it in from 37 yards out to cut the lead to 29-14, but Forest City would get no closer.
Nick Christenson was 19-for-31 with 258 yards passing for Spirit Lake. He had two touchdown passes and an interception. Moody had 15 carries for 82 yards and three catches for 57 yards with two touchdowns. Ramos had five catches for 59 yards and a touchdown for Spirit Lake who improves to 2-0.
