Spirit Lake fell to Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Monday night in a 3A regional final in Sheldon 2-0. The game was scoreless through five and a half innings before the Nighthawks pushed the two winning runs across home plate in the bottom of the sixth. The key play for BHRV came with the bases loaded, two outs, and a 1-2 count to Sam Blum who hit a quick grounder off of Bailey Newman's ankle, leading to an RBI single. Another RBI by Cassie Van Beek gave BHRV the 2-0 lead and the win as the Indians couldn't mount a comeback in the top of the seventh.

CJ Van Der Swaag came into the game with a 28-1 record and .51 ERA this season. She pitched all seven innings for the Nighthawks, giving up no runs on 5 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 2. She was also 2-for-3 batting.

Bailee Newman pitched all six innings in the loss, giving up 2 earned runs on 9 hits while striking out 3 and walking 2. Maddie Richter led the Indians offensively going 2-for-2.

The Nighthawks advance to next week's State tournament after being knocked out of last year's playoffs by Spirit Lake in the regional semifinal.

Spirit Lake finishes the season with a 31-7 record and back to back Lakes Conference championships.
