Spirit Lake Comes From Behind To Win Homecoming
Spirit Lake came from behind to edge Humboldt 34-28 for the Indians Homecoming on Friday night. Spirit Lake took an early 14-0 lead off a 61 yard touchdown run by Brock Tvedte and a one yard touchdown run by Matthew Moody. Humboldt answered with a 57 yard touchdown catch by Jamison Heinz with 5:01 to go in the first and tied it six seconds into the second quarter after a 25 yard touchdown catch by Elijah Sande. Later in the second quarter, Dawson Ahrenstorff came up with an interception for Spirit Lake at their own 20, but on the following play, Colton Monson got an interception for the Wildcats and returned it 26 yards for a touchdown to put Humboldt up 21-14. With 2:21 to go in the first half, Logan Moser found pay dirt from 14 yards out and the Wildcats extended their lead to 28-14. Spirit Lake would answer before halftime with a five play, 65 yard drive that resulted in a four yard touchdown run by Moody. Humboldt led 28-21 at the halfway mark. In the third quarter, Noah Mayer stopped a Wildcat drive in Spirit Lake territory with an interception at the Indians 30 yard line. Spirit Lake would take advantage of the turnover and score eight plays later on another one yard touchdown run by Moody. With the game tied at 28, the Indians took the lead with a six yard touchdown run by Ahrenstorff. They missed the extra point though to lead 34-28. Frankie Ramos came up with two interceptions in the fourth quarter to help the Indians defense preserve the win.
Moody had 25 carries for 153 yards and three touchdowns for Spirit Lake. He also had one catch for 54 yards. Brock Tvedte had three carries for 87 yards and a touchdown. Ahrenstorff had four catches for 85 yards and a touchdown. Nicholas Christensen was 12-for-22 passing for 210 yards with one interception. The Indians are 5-1 (3-1 District) and host Storm Lake next Friday. Hear the game on KUOO. Heinz had three catches for 117 yards and a touchdown for the Wildcats. Drew Thomas was 12-for-29 passing for 224 yards. He had two touchdown passes and four interceptions along with eight carries for 57 yards. Humboldt falls to 2-4 (1-3 District). They host Sergeant Bluff-Luton on Friday.
