Spirit Lake Basketball Sweeps Spencer

In the Spirit Lake vs. Spencer girls game on Saturday January 3rd, Spencer started off leading Spirit Lake 10-8 after the 1st quarter.  However, Spirit Lake would outscore Spencer 51-25 the rest of the way in route to a 59-35 lakes conference road victory.  The Indians outscored the Tigers 19-6 in the 2nd quarter and 17-5 in the 3rd quarter and held them to 29% shooting.  Spirit Lake made 4 three pointers and had 3 players in double figures.  They were led by Emma Dau with 16, Bailee Newman with 13 including 3 three pointers and Joie Veldman with 10.  Spencer got 6 from Kelsey Rolfes and Kendra Bauermeister.  The Indians improve to 7-2 and will host Emmetsburg Tuesday on KUOO.  The Tigers fall to 4-4 and will travel to Hull Western Tuesday.

In the night cap, Spirit Lake had an impressive first quarter scoring 20 points.  Spencer would get within 5 points at half trailing 30-25.  In the 3rd quarter, the Tigers got within 2 points before Spirit Lake starting hitting their outside shots and putting the game away winning 61-41.  The Indians outscored the Tigers 31-16 in the 2nd half and held Spencer to just 5 points in the 4th quarter.  Spirit Lake shot 56% from the floor and had 3 players in doubles.  They were led by Ryan Kriener with 21 points and 7 rebounds, Alec Henrickson with 14 points including 4 three pointers and Billy Brown had 13.  Spencer's Preston Funderburg and Jake Kluender each had 15 points.  Spirit Lake improves to 6-1 and hosts Emmetsburg Tuesday.  Spencer falls to 4-2 and travel to Hull Tuesday
