Spirit Lake Basketball Sweeps Spencer Tuesday January 5th

Spirit Lake got past Spencer 54-46 in Lakes Conference Girls Basketball on Tuesday night.  The two teams were tied at 9 after one quarter and 17 at halftime.  The third quarter saw the Indians take a three point lead, 32-29.  The Tigers went cold early in the fourth quarter, allowing Spirit Lake to increase the lead to 10.  Spencer would cut the lead back to four, but the Indians made their free throws to seal the victory.  The charity stripe was a big difference in the contest.  Spirit Lake was 20-for-26 at the free throw line in the contest while Spencer was 0-for-3.  Anna Brown led the Indians with 15 and 8 rebounds.  Joie Veldman had 14 and Spirit Lake improved to 7-1 (4-1 Lakes Conference).  The Indians travel to LeMars on Friday.  Hear the game on KUOO.  Keeley Petzenhauser led the Tigers with a game high 18.  Jalen Rost had four treys for Spencer, who falls to 5-2 (3-2 Lakes Conference).  The Tigers are in Sioux City for the CNOS Classic on Thursday and will take on Pierce, Nebraska.

Spirit Lake got off to a fast start early and never looked back in defeating Spencer 72-37 Tuesday night in the first game back for both teams after the holiday break.  The Indians led 15-9 after the 1st quarter and 29-14 at the half.  Spirit Lake would open it up in the 2nd half, outscoring Spencer 43-23.  The Indians would end up shooting 59% from the field while holding the Tigers to 34%.  Spirit Lake got 27 points and 14 rebounds from Ryan Kriener and 25 points from Billy Brown.  Spencer got 13 points from Jake Kluender.  The Indians improve to 7-2 and 4-1 in the conference.  They will travel to LeMars Friday on KUOO.  Spencer drops to 5-2 and 3-2 in the conference and will play in the CNOS classic in Sioux City Thursday against Lawton Bronson.
