Spirit Lake Basketball Sweeps ELC
Spirit Lake won a defensive battle against Estherville-Lincoln Central 40-24 on Friday night. The Indians built a 14-6 first quarter lead and held the eight point margin at halftime, 24-16. The Indians used a strong third quarter to stretch the lead to 35-21 going into the final frame. Brooke Harrington led Spirit Lake with 11 points. Jordyn Hamm added nine as the Indians improve to 3-2 (1-1 Lakes Conference). Spirit Lake will take a week off and return to the court next Friday against Spencer at home. Spirit Lake broke open a low scoring game in the third quarter and got past Estherville-Lincoln Central 53-28. Both teams were cold offensively in the first quarter with ELC holding a 6-3 lead going into the second quarter. The Indians had a better second quarter and led 16-13 at halftime. In the second half, shots started to fall for Spirit Lake and the Midgets could not keep pace as the Indians outscored ELC 37 to 15. Frankie Ramos led all scorers with 14 points for Spirit Lake. Owen Coburn added 10 as the Indians improve to 3-1 (1-1 Lakes Conference). Spirit Lake will face Spencer next Friday. Hear the game on KUOO. Trevor Freisner led ELC with eight points. The Midgets suffer their first loss and are 4-1 (1-1 Lakes Conference). They host LeMars on Tuesday.
