Spirit Lake Basketball Hosts Spencer To End Month Of January

Girls Game

 

A big first quarter propelled Spencer to a 62-49 win over Spirit Lake.  The Tigers led 19-7 after one quarter and maintained their 12 point lead at halftime with a score of 34-22.  Spirit Lake would cut the lead to 45-39 after three quarters and got as close as three in the second half but could not complete the comeback.  The Tigers forced the Indians into 22 turnovers with 18 of those coming in the first half.  Spencer was led by Keeley Petzenhauser's 15 points.  Julia Feldmann came off the bench to add 11 for the Tigers, who improve to 8-9 (5-6 Lakes Conference).  They play at Storm Lake on Thursday.  Spirit Lake got a game high 16 points from Anna Brown.  The Indians are 10-8 (5-7 Lakes Conference).  They host LeMars on Friday.  Hear that game on KUOO.

 

 

Boys Game

 

The boys game started off a defensive battle with Spirit Lake leading Spencer 25-16 at the half.  In the second half, Spencer kept pace with Spirit Lake but could not overcome a slow start and the Indians beat the Tigers 53-41 in Lakes Conference play.  Spirit Lake had a great overall game from Alex VanDyke with 15 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds.  Spencer was led by Brady Kluender with 12.  The Tigers falls to 6-10 and 3-8 in the conference and will travel to Storm Lake Thursday in a makeup.  Spirit Lake improves to 14-3 and 9-3 in the conference and will host LeMars Friday on KUOO.
