Spirit Lake Basketball Hosts Emmetsburg

Girls Game

 

The Spirit Lake Indians hosted Emmetsburg on Thursday night and it was the E'hawks coming from behind and beating the Indians 49-47 in overtime.  Spirit Lake got off to a quick start with a 13-0 run in the first quarter and led 15-7 after 1.  After that, Emmetsburg put the clamps down defensively and outscored Spirit Lake 16-12 in the next 2 quarters to trail 27-23 heading into the fourth quarter.  Both teams then came alive offensively in the 4th as both teams would hit 4 three pointers in the quarter.  It was Emmetsburg however outscoring Spirit Lake 19-15 in the quarter to put the game into overtime.  In the extra session both teams traded buckets until Bailey Naig hit the go ahead 2 with under 10 seconds to play to break the 47-47 tie.  Spirit Lake's Bailee Newman did have a look a few feet outside the 3 point line but missed it short at the front of the iron to as time ran out.

 

Joie Veldman led Spirit Lake with 12 points and Emma Dau had 11.  The Indians fall to 10-6, 6-4 and will host Estherville Friday on KUOO.  Ashton Connelly and Bailey Naig had 14 points for Emmetsburg.  The E'hawks improve to 9-5 and 7-3 in the lakes conference and travel to Hull on Friday.

Boys Game

 

The Spirit Lake boys led from start to finish and beat Emmetsburg 77-32.  The Indians started off fast leading 22-6 after the 1st quarter and 47-21 at halftime.  The score increased after 3 by a score of 66-25.  Spirit Lake shot 52% for the ball game with only 8 turnovers while forcing Emmetsburg into 22 turnovers.

 

Spirit Lake was led by Alec Henrickson with 23 points.  He had 16 in the 2nd quarter.  Also Ryan Kriener had 20 points and Billy Brown with 10.  Spirit Lake improves to 13-2, 8-2.  Emmetsburg was led by Wes Schultes with 12 points.  They fall to 2-12, 1-9.
