Sibley-Ocheyedan Softball Ends HMS Season

Sibley-Ocheyedan scored five runs in the first inning and held on for a 6-5 win over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in Class 2A Region 5 softball on Monday night. The Hawks got a run in the second and fourth innings. In the sixth, they got three runs on a double from Hannah Jochims, but would strand two base runners to trail by a run. The Generals would hold on in the final inning. Abbie Bos was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for S-O. Keytin Elser was 3-for-4 with a run scored. Michaela Block was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Alayna Wingate was the winning pitcher for the Generals. She pitched the first five and 1/3 innings, giving up five runs on 10 hits. She struck out three and walked one. Madison Marco got the save for S-O. She pitched the final 1 2/3 innings, giving up no runs on one hit. She struck out one and walked none. The Generals improve to 3-23. They'll go to Central Springs on Wednesday. Hannah Jochims was 2-for-4 with three RBIs for H-M-S. Gracie Mastbergen was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Trey Haag was the losing pitcher. She gave up six runs on 12 hits. She struck out three and walked none. H-M-S finishes at 4-21. They say goodbye to seniors Maddie Bronstad, Kourtney Schnurr, Jennie Riedemann, Maggie Albert, and Xaviere Klein.
