Comments From Okoboji Head Coach John Adams:
“We just didn’t have the same sense of urgency and execution tonight that we did last night. Give Sheldon credit, their zone pressure bothered us and every time we would make a run in the second half they would answer with a big three pointer. Ella played a great all-around game for us and this team continues to give us everything that they have. The final score wasn’t what we wanted, but I love how hard they compete and how they continue to stick together.”
The Pioneers hosted Sheldon Friday night for a Siouxland Conference matchup. Both teams guarded throughout the first quarter with Sheldon taking a 11-8 lead going into the second quarter and a 27-24 lead going into the half. Okoboji was able to take a brief lead in the third quarter but Sheldon responded for a 37-32 advantage going into the final quarter. Sheldon won the game with a 59-50 final. The Pioneers were led by Will Jensen's 14 points. Will Hoffman added nine and Jaden Heller and Aidan Dahms added eight each. Sheldon was led by Sudebeck's 18 points. Brouwer and Ackerman contributed 16 and 14, respectively.
Comments From Okoboji Head Coach Ryan Stumbo:
It was a hard fought game by both teams tonight. We spent way too much of the game reacting to their defense instead of us forcing their defense to react to us, and it made it hard for us to gather consistent rhythm offensively. We also missed an uncharacteristic number of free throws that also really hurt us tonight. A lot of credit needs to be given to Sheldon for how they worked on defense, made shots, and did a nice job from the free throw line tonight. We will continue to work on ways to play more consistently moving forward.
