SB-L downs Spirit Lake
Sergeant Bluff-Luton downed Spirit Lake 31-14 in Class 3A District 1 Football on Friday night. The Warriors struck first with two touchdown passes to Ty Boekelman to lead 14-0 after one quarter. The Indians got an eight yard touchdown catch by Adam Skopec to cut the lead to 14-7 in the second, but SBL chewed up over 5:30 of clock and Britton Delperdang found pay dirt from two yard out just before half to extend the Warriors lead to 21-7. The two teams traded scores in the third quarter with SBL leading 28-14 after three. The Warriors added a field goal early in the fourth for the 31-14 final. Delperdang had 44 carries for 218 yard to lead SBL. The Warriors have clinched the district title and a playoff birth as they improve to 8-0 (6-0 District). They host Storm Lake next Friday. For Spirit Lake, Nick Christensen was 11-for-23 passing for 165 yards and an interception. He had a rushing touchdown. Alex Van Dyke had two receptions for 79 yards. The Indians fall to 5-3 (3-3 District). They host Bishop Heelan to wrap up the season next Friday.
