San Pedro receives ICCAC honor
AMES - Iowa Lakes Community College sophomore outfielder-shortstop Leilani San Pedro has been named Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for Division II softball.
San Pedro, a graduate of Redlands, Calif. East Valley High School, is the first ILCC player to receive the award this season.
She was selected for this award based on games played during the week of March 12-18. San Pedro produced big numbers for the Lakers during their 6-6 spring trip to Clermont, Florida.
In 10 games, San Pedro had a total of 18 hits, batting .545. She had four doubles, one triple and five home runs, including a grand slam. She had 19 runs batted in, scored 21 runs, had seven stolen bases and walked seven times.
For the season, San Pedro is batting .446 with an on-base percentage of .551. She has 25 hits, including five doubles, one triple and five homers. She has batted in 24 RBI and has scored 24 times. She also has 12 stolen bases.
"I am so proud of Leilani for receiving this award," said Iowa Lakes coach Katie Larson. "She comes in every day with a smile on her face and the willingness to work hard. She has really proven herself here at Iowa Lakes as an elite player in the conference and it will be fun to see what more she can accomplish."
The Lakers are 9-9 on the season. They're scheduled to play a doubleheader vs. Indian Hills Sunday at Ottumwa.
