Ruiz moving on to Wisconsin-Superior
SUPERIOR, Wis. - Former Iowa Lakes Community College women's basketball player Marissa Ruiz has committed to continuing her academic and athletic career at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, an NCAA Division III institution.
Ruiz graduated from ILCC in May.
As a sophomore with the Lakers, she averaged 10.3 points and 2.5 assists per game and led the team with 60 steals. Ruiz shot 37 percent from the field (31 percent from three-point range) and 78 percent from the free-throw line.
"I really enjoyed my experience at Iowa Lakes and will especially remember my sophomore season." Ruiz commented. "Our team was able to accomplish some great things that nobody thought we could do and I am thankful for everything Iowa Lakes has done for me.".
Ruiz earned third-team all-Region XI honors.
"I am so happy for Marissa," said Iowa Lakes coach Ashley Martin. "Marissa improved so much from her freshmen year to sophomore year. She works extremely hard and embraces every opportunity she receives. Marissa has helped build the foundation for our women's basketball program and has left her mark. Wisconsin-Superior will be a great fit for Marissa and I am excited to follow her as she continues onto her next journey."
The Yellowjackets finished the season 23-5 and won their third straight UMAC championship.
