Comments From Head Coach John Adams
“We came out with great energy in the first 12 minutes and then we stopped taking care of the basketball and rebounding. We had great effort in the first four minutes of the third quarter when we held them scoreless, but we just couldn’t find a way to put the ball into the basket to take advantage of that and trim the lead. I thought we let our struggles on the offensive end carry over on defense the last 12 minutes of the game. We’ve got to do a better job of coaching this group on the offensive end of the court as our effort and energy on defense have been good enough to win games.”
The Pioneers traveled to Sioux Center Tuesday for another Siouxland Conference matchup. Both teams competed to end the first quarter with a score of 13-11 in favor of the Warriors. Sioux Center began to pull ahead in the second quarter ending the half with a 31-20 score. Okoboji fought back in the third to go into the fourth quarter down 43-36. The game got tied up in the fourth but Sioux Center closed the game to a 63-51 victory. The Pioneers were led by Will Jensen's 20 points. Will Hoffman contributed 12 and Jaden Heller with 9 points. Okoboji falls to 5-4 and will be at Emmetsburg Thursday on Y 100.
Comments From Head Coach Ryan Stumbo:
The boys never gave up tonight and fought to give us a chance heading into the final stretch of the game. We were proud of that and need to build on the positives. Credit Sioux Center as they played tough around the rim and made timely plays tonight. We will keep working on finding ways to compete and look forward to more opportunities this week.
