Comments From Head Coach John Adams:
“We were proud of how the girls responded in the second half when we challenged them at halftime. Montana had a great second half scoring 16 of her points and dominating the paint; Olivia shot the ball really well and it was great to get Shayla back out there as she gave us some great minutes and hit some big shots. Emma Larson also played really well, scoring five points and grabbing seven rebounds. Once we can cut down on our turnovers this team can play with anyone and we as coaches need to do a better job of putting them in position to handle pressure defense.”
The Pioneers hosted GTRA in Okoboji's first non-conference game of the year. Both teams came out well offensively with the first quarter ending 25-19 in favor of the Pioneers. The teams continued to compete throughout the second quarter with a 38-28 Okoboji lead going into half. The third quarter came to a close 54-43 in favor of Okoboji, and the final ended in a Pioneer victory 71-61. The Pioneers saw a very balanced offensive attack with Jaden Heller scoring 18 points, Will Hoffman 17 points, Justin Vaughn 10 points, and Austin Harms adding another 10. GTRA was led by Max Hough and Drew Schnell who scored 17 a piece.
Comments From Head Coach Ryan Stumbo:
We were very proud of how we responded after another tough week that challenged us and made us better. It was great to see a lot of different guys step up tonight and contribute. We were really balanced offensively and worked hard on defense throughout the night. Our seniors did a really nice job leading us as a team and making plays throughout the night. Austin Harms, Kaleb Peschong, and Aidan Dahms also contributed in important ways. It was a good team effort tonight.
