Okoboji Softball Falls At Pocahontas
Pocahontas Area/Laurens-Marathon defeated Okoboji 6-1 in non-conference softball on Tuesday night in Pocahontas. The Pioneers got their lone run in the top of the first when Cory Hoffman scored on a passed ball. PAC/L-M would score four in the bottom of the first and add a run in both the second and third innings. The bats then went quiet for both teams, and the Indians held on for the win. Payton Hjerleid was the winning pitcher for PAC/L-M. She pitched all seven innings, giving up one run on five hits, striking out seven and walking three. Offensively, Jocelyn Johnson and Kara Neuman were both 2-for-3 with a run and a RBI for the Indians who improve to 10-8. Hoffman led the Pioneers’ offense. She was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Grace Wintz was the losing pitcher. She pitched the first two and 1/3 innings, giving up all six runs on seven hits, striking out one, while walking three. Abbie Klatt pitched well in relief for Okoboji. She gave up no runs on one hit. Klatt struck out seven batters in the contest while walking none. Okoboji falls to 8-13. Next up for the Pioneers is a road trip to Sheldon on Wednesday.
