Girls Game

The 2-A #14 Okoboji Pioneers rallied to beat Rock Valley 52-44 in Milford on Tuesday night.  Okoboji got off to a quick 8-2 lead but the Rockets would answer and knot it all at 10 at the end of the first quarter.  Rock Valley would take advantage of some cold Okoboji shooting from the free throw line and field to take a 26-18 lead into halftime.  The third quarter was an even battle as the Rockets would maintain their 8 point advantage at 39-31 heading into the 4th quarter.  The lid finally came off the basket for the Pioneers in the final stanza, as they would battle back and score the first 11 points of the quarter to go up 42-39. Okoboji would get some key buckets down the stretch from Molly Mitchell and free throws by Emily Wintz to pull out the 52-44 win.  Mitchell had a huge night for the Pioneers, scoring 23 points, snaring 17 rebounds and blocking 5 shots.  Megan Peschong would have another double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.  Okoboji also got 6 rebounds from Kailye Hromatko, while Olivia Albright and Shaelyn Adams lead the Pioneers with 4 steals each and Brenna McCabe handed out 3 assists.  Okoboji improves to 14-3 overall and 12-2 in the Siouxland Conference.  The Pioneers will host Boyden-Hull on Friday night on Q 102.
