Okoboji Girls Basketball Wins Road Game At MOC-FV
The Okoboji Girls won their fourth straight game despite not scoring in the first quarter with a hard-fought 41-33 win at MOC-FV on Friday night. Both teams struggled to get anything going in the first quarter as both defenses were strong; the Dutch would take a 4-0 lead into the second quarter. A three pointer by Ali Goehring got the Pioneers on the board but points would continue to be hard to come by as MOC-FV would take a 12-9 lead at the half. Goehring would hit two straight threes to start the second half to give Okoboji a 15-13 lead in a quarter that saw no team take a lead larger than 3 and the Pioneers would take a 28-26 into the fourth quarter. Okoboji went on an 8-1 run to start the quarter and take command of the game at 36-27 before hitting enough free throws down the stretch to ice the game. The Pioneers were led by Kallyn Stumbo who had another great floor game with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists while Goehring added 12 points on 4-5 three point shooting. Okoboji improves to 6-3 on the year and 4-3 in the Siouxland Conference.
Comments From Okoboji Coach John Adams:
“I was really proud of how hard our girls battled again tonight. To not score in the first quarter at all but keep defending really shows how far we’ve come this year and how mentally tough this team is becoming. We had great energy from our bench the entire game that helped our girls on the court stay positive and focused. Ali Goehring hit some huge shots for us the entire game; she has really worked hard on her shot all season long and it’s great to see it pay off. Kallyn was great for us again with a double-double while playing all 32 minutes.”
