Okoboji Girls Basketball Wins Defensive Game Against GT/RA
The Okoboji Girls won a hard-fought defensive battel at Graeattinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayshire on Monday night 33-26. Both teams struggle to get much going on offense in the first quarter as the Titans would take a 5-4 lead into the second frame. GTRA would take a three point lead late in the quarter before a big put-back by Taylor Titterington trimmed the lead to 12-11 at the half. The third quarter was back and forth and the Pioneers took the lead for good at the end of the stanza with a Kallyn Stumbo lay-up to take a 22-20 lead. The Pioneers would score the first six points of the final quarter to take a 28-20 lead and the Titans would never get closer than six the rest of the game. Okoboji was led by Stumbos 11 points to go along with 8 rebounds and 4 steals; Magan Christopherson had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds and Camry Jones chipped in with 10 points and 6 rebounds. GTRA was led by Madison Hough’s 9 points. Okoboji improves to 4-3 on the season and will hit the road again on Tuesday against Rock Valley.
Comments From Coach Adams
“It was a defensive battle all night by two teams who really got after each other. Points were hard to come by the all game, and you’ve got to give GTRA credit for how hard they guard and play. They’re a really good team and we’re really pleased to come of there with a win. I was very impressed with our girls sticking to the game plan on defense and continuing to guard even when the shots weren’t falling. It was great to see Magan and Kallyn getting after it on the glass as they combined for 18 boards.”
